Shade garden
Project Location: Chicago back yard
A cast iron rabbit keeps watch in the middle of this shade garden at the foot of a large silver maple tree. The site has proved somewhat difficult for some plants (including several Lungworts), but happy tenants include a Climbing Hydrangea (Hydrangea anomala petiolaris) working its way up a lattice in the back, Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis sylvatica), an Azalea (Azalea ‘Weston’s Innocence’), False Lamium (Lamiastrum galeobdolon), Japanese Painted Fern (Athyrium nipponicum ‘Pictum’) and Golden Corydalis (Corydalis lutea), which has a penchant for popping up in unexpected places.
